Golden Gai is the Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group’s izakaya-style Japanese pub in Bakery Square. Led by Executive Chef Michael Taylor of sister restaurant Gi-Jin, it is modeled after the tiny, bar-lined alleys of Tokyo’s Golden Gai district.

We’re known for grilled yakitori skewers, carefully selected sushi and sashimi, and hot izakaya dishes such as karaage fried chicken and miso cod. The food is paired with an extensive sake and Japanese whisky program.

Our beverage program includes a carefully selected range of sake, Japanese whiskies, craft cocktails, and beer chosen to complement the izakaya-style small plates.

Golden Gai is open for dinner Tuesday through Sunday. Hours may change, so check our current listings before your visit.

We’re at 116 Bakery Square Boulevard, across from täkō törtä in Pittsburgh’s Bakery Square. The restaurant is in the East End near Shadyside and Squirrel Hill.

Yes. Reservations are available online and recommended, especially on weekends. Walk-ins are welcome as seating allows.
